THE SAFEGUARD OF YOUR COMMITMENTS

Sound advice, before you sign.

Between buyer and seller, between generations, between Mauritius and the rest of the world, the notary is the trusted third party. Impartial, the notary checks, explains and makes sure everyone understands what they are signing.

ON AIR AND IN THE PRESS

The law, explained to all.

Your questions, answered.

Is a notary compulsory in Mauritius?

For some deeds, yes: the sale of property, marriage contracts and donations require a notarial deed. For everything else, a notary gives you a secure, dated deed that is hard to challenge.

How much does a notary cost in Mauritius?

Fees follow a scale set by the Notaries Act 2008, the same for everyone. For a property purchase: 2% on the first Rs 250,000, 1.5% on the next Rs 500,000, 1% on the next million and 0.5% above that.

Can a foreigner buy property in Mauritius?

Yes, within the frameworks set by law (PDS, IRS, RES, Smart City, G+2 apartments) and with Economic Development Board approval. The notary first checks that the property qualifies.

I live abroad. Do I need to come to Mauritius to sign?

Not necessarily. A power of attorney signed in your country, then legalised or apostilled, often lets someone represent you.

How do I book an appointment?

Call +230 213 12 12, send a WhatsApp message to +230 5 250 73 07 or use the contact form. The office will tell you which documents to bring.
